When you are in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka and feel like staying in a hotel with some old-world charm and luxury, Taj Samudra Colombo is a great choice.
Located in the heart of the city, Taj Samudra is a 5-star luxurious hotel located in the heart of the city. It offers stunning views of the Indian Ocean, Galle Face Green and the vibrant city of Colombo.
The lobby is bright and sophisticated with beautifully crafted windows, lighting and artwork hanging on the walls. There are plenty of seating around and a lounge that comes to life at night when the pianist plays their instrumental tunes and the bartender whips up some delightful drinks.
The architecture and design of the hotel have a strong colonial influence. A spacious and grand entrance flanked by two stone-craved elephants statue symbolizes good luck, power, wisdom and strength. There are plenty of lush green gardens and flowers when you approach the hotel.
The lift lobby echos the colonial design elements with a touch or modern touch.
The Taj Samudra has many restaurants on its property, and one of the most prominent is the Port Of Call. The bring orange flamingos and cylindrical shaped wine rack leads you into this buffet restaurant that overlooks the hotel pool.
Serving buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a wide spread of local and international cuisine. The Port of Call is popular amongst the locals and guests of the hotel and is always packed during the weekends.
Famous for its Sri Lankan and Indian specialities, it is a must-try when you are staying there, especially its dessert section which is definitely my favourite.
The swimming pool is a great place for rest and relax where you can see the modern high rise of Colombo City.
The rooms and suites are spacious and well-appointed and most of them get a view of the beach and ocean just across the street.
Overall I had a lovely and enjoyable stay at the Taj Samudra.
