As a food enthusiast, I always try to explore new places and cuisines, and my recent staycation at Hilton Singapore Orchard gave me the perfect opportunity to do just that.
And one of the restaurants that I simply had to visit was Chatterbox, located at the Hilton Singapore Orchard, previously known as Mandarin Orchard Hotel. This restaurant which is established in 1971 is particularly famous for its signature dish, the Mandarin Chicken Rice.
As soon as I walked into the restaurant, I was impressed by the elegant and sophisticated ambience. The décor was modern, Japandi minimalist yet welcoming and the lighting was just perfect, creating a cosy and comfortable atmosphere.
Without wasting any time, I ordered the Mandarin Chicken Rice, and I must say, I was not disappointed. Chatterbox is known for its legendary and is also known as the most expensive chicken rice in Singapore.
The chicken was incredibly tender, and the rice was cooked to perfection in chicken broth. The dish was served with chilli sauce and ginger paste on the side, which added a nice zing to the flavour. The portion size was good for me and I was completely satisfied after finishing my meal.
Apart from the Mandarin Chicken Rice, Chatterbox also serves many other local dishes. I tried the Wok-fried Sambal Vegetable, Mackerel & Crab Otah-Otah which are mild spicy starters, followed by Lemon butter Tiger Prawn that I really like very much. The Sea Perch with Burnt Green Chilli is a little too spicy for me since my tolerance for spicy food is pretty low.
The Lobster Laksa and Seafood Hokkien Mee were equally delicious. The seafood is really fresh and the spice level for the Laksa was just right, and the ingredients blended perfectly with coconut broth and coconut milk.
For desserts, the Signature Coconut Ice Cream is a must-try if you are a sweet tooth like me. With two scoops of coconut ice cream drizzled in gula malaka brown sugar topped with fruits and walnuts, it really brings a good mouthful of tropical flavours. I also tried the Pandan Cake with Gelato and Chandol.
Overall, my experience at Chatterbox was definitely a tummy-fulfilling one. The food was delicious, the service was prompt and courteous, and the ambience was just perfect.
The restaurant was packed with diners, most tables are reserved especially on the weekends, so do make your reservations early.
